Brooklyn, N.Y. (August 21, 2026) — The Brooklyn FC Women’s home opener in the 2026 Gainbridge Super League Fall Season was spoiled by DC Power FC in a 4-1 loss Friday night at Maimonides Park.
The defeat drops BKFC to 0-2 on the season following last week’s season-opening loss away to Lexington SC.
Head Coach Alex Smith stuck with the same starting XI from that first match to kick off in Coney Island. But unlike in Kentucky, where the BKFC Women held strong in the first half, the side were overwhelmed early as DC pounced to take a two-goal lead in the first eight minutes.
The first goal came in the 6th minute after a failed clearance left DC Power midfielder Emma Jaskaniec with a simple finish from close range.
The second goal came just two minutes later after a giveaway in the midfield sprung DC’s counterattack, and forward Loza Abera was able to collect the pass from the wing, spin, and fire a shot from the top of the 18-yard box past Brooklyn goalkeeper Bre Norris.
As the match went on, Brooklyn gathered more confidence and found some moments to threaten on the counter, particularly through newly acquired forward Tziarra “Zee” King. In the 42nd minute, she juked her way into the box but couldn’t get the power needed to beat the keeper.
After the break, BKFC attempted to gather momentum, but in the 60th minute, the defense gave away a penalty, and DC forward Tyler Lussi converted to make it 3-0.
Still, the home side wasn’t ready to lay down. In the 75th minute, the breakthrough came for Brooklyn FC’s first goal of the young season.
Again, King was at the center of the action, gathering DC’s misplayed clearance on a corner kick and ripping a half-volley off the woodwork. The rebound bounced around until defender Jordan Thompson, a halftime substitute for Laila Booker, cleaned it up with a one-time strike into the back of the net. The goal was Thompson’s second career goal for BKFC.
Suddenly, there was hope that a comeback could be in the works.
But it was short-lived.
In the 83rd minute, Abera added a second goal to restore DC’s three-goal lead and finish the scoring on the night.
Brooklyn FC Women next match is away at Fort Lauderdale United on Friday, August 29, at Beyond Bancard Field. Kick off is at 7:30 PM. The match will stream live on Peacock.
