Brooklyn, N.Y. (September 28, 2026) — Brooklyn FC Men host Detroit City FC on Wednesday, as the 2026 USL Championship season draws to a close. Kickoff is at 7 PM ET, streaming on ESPN+ and Sirius XM FC Channel 188.
The two teams played each other back in March, which was Brooklyn’s first away match in men’s club history. Unfortunately, it ended in a 3-0 loss to Detroit, and Brooklyn will be looking to get a better result this time around. They had a weekend off for the first time since June, with their last match being a 4-0 loss away to Birmingham last Wednesday.
Detroit currently sits third in the Eastern Conference and wants to hold onto a top four spot to secure home field advantage in the playoffs. The team has the strongest defense in the USL Championship, conceding just 19 goals in 25 matches. Their goalkeeper, Carlos Herrera, is tied for the most clean sheets in the league, with 12. Their attack is led by South African striker Darren Smith, who has scored 12 goals this season, the fourth-most in the Championship. Despite this, Detroit is one of the lowest scoring teams, with the rest of the squad scoring just 17 goals.
The Brooklyn squad has gone through a lot of rotation this season and struggled to find consistency. However, they have been significantly better at home than on the road, with the last three home matches resulting in a win and two draws. BKFC are looking for another strong result and will want to end the season on a high note. Midfielder Abdoulaye Kanté has been a positive influence since his return from injury, scoring a goal in the 2-2 draw against FC Tulsa. Midfielder CJ Olney Jr. has been one of the team’s top performers this season, becoming the first Brooklyn player to reach 2,000 minutes this year and recording his seventh assist of the season for Kanté’s goal. This moved him into the top three for assists by a teenager in a USL Championship season. Forwards Stefan Stojanovic and JC Obregón Jr. have also both scored multiple goals for the club in 2026 and will need to be clinical against the stingy Detroit defense
Brooklyn FC will have just four matches left in the season after facing Detroit. They host Rhode Island FC on October 3 at 8 PM ET at Maimonides Park, celebrating Fan Appreciation Night. They will then travel to Connecticut to take on Hartford Athletic on October 17 before the final home match of the season on October 21, against Birmingham Legion. Tickets are available on SeatGeek.
