Brooklyn, NY. (August 26th, 2026) – Brooklyn FC Women will compete in their next match in the Gainbridge Super League 2026 Fall Season this Friday. They will travel to Florida to face Fort Lauderdale United FC on August 28 at 7:30 PM ET, streaming on Peacock.
Both teams are looking for their first victory of the season in this match, as every single point is vital in this shortened season. The two previous meetings between the clubs have both been in Fort Lauderdale and ended in draws, including a 3-3 tie back in February. Brooklyn FC’s last match was its home opener which was unfortunately spoiled by DC Power, as BKFC lost 4-1.
Fort Lauderdale United has played one match so far this season, losing 1-0 at home to Sporting JAX on opening weekend. They then had a weekend off from match play, so they will be well rested when Brooklyn FC comes to visit. The club had a disappointing 2025/26 season, where they finished last place in the Super League and missed the playoffs, after finishing as runners-up in the 2024/25 season. Forward Kiara Locklear returns for her third year with the South Florida club after scoring six goals last season and seven goals in the season before that. The team also brought back midfielder Kelli Van Treeck, who was named to the All-League Second Team last season, contributing four goals and two assists. One of the big additions for the team has been defender Haley Thomas, joining from the now defunct Spokane Zephyr FC. She was named club captain for the Fall Season and will be looking to help the Fort Lauderdale defense that had conceded the most goals in the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League.
Brooklyn has shown moments of strong play, but has had lapses of concentration that have cost them results in both games. In the season opener against Lexington, the team conceded two goals in three minutes in the second half. In the next match against DC Power, the team allowed two goals in the first eight minutes of the match. Coach Alex Smith will be stressing to his players how important it will be to stay focused during the opening stretches of each half. The club added some reinforcements with the addition of midfielder Sara D’Appolonia late last week, and she will be hoping to make her Brooklyn debut against Fort Lauderdale. Midfielder Jilly Shimkin has made a strong impact coming off the bench, creating four chances in just 39 minutes of action, the most on the team. Defender Jordan Thompson also entered the match at halftime last week, helping to stabilize the back line, as well as scoring the first goal of the season for BKFC. Forwards Carlee Giammona and Tziarra King will hope to jumpstart the attack, and both are looking for the first goals of their Brooklyn careers.
Brooklyn FC Women play once more on the road against Dallas Trinity FC on September 5 at 8:30 PM ET, before a home match against Sporting JAX on September 13. Tickets are available on SeatGeek.
