Brooklyn, N.Y. (October 3, 2026) – Brooklyn FC Men were beaten 3-1 at home by Rhode Island FC this weekend.
Rhode Island opened the scoring in the 18th minute when midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thomson turned and volleyed a ball from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Just a few minutes later, the lead was doubled through defender Karifa Yao. A cross found Yao at the back post, who headed it towards goal. The initial shot was saved by Brooklyn goalkeeper Jackson Lee, but the defence could not clear the ball as it rolled into the net.
Brooklyn controlled much of the possession after this, but were unable to create any meaningful chances and went into halftime down 2-0.
In the 53rd minute, defender Rocco Romeo scored a header from a free kick, but it was called off for being offside.
Two minutes later, Rhode Island scored their third as an initial shot was saved by Lee, but the rebound was scored by defender Nick Scardina.
Brooklyn were able to claw one back in the 85th minute as midfielder Malik Pinto drove forward, cut in on his left foot, and curled a goal into the top corner. However, it was too little, too late, as the team lost 3-1.
