Brooklyn, N.Y. (September 30, 2026) – Brooklyn FC Men lost 3-1 to Detroit City FC at home. Despite fighting back to find an equalizer against the best defense in the USL Championship, Brooklyn fell behind again 2-1. While pushing late in the game, Detroit were able to seal the game with a goal into an empty net in second half stoppage time.
Detroit City controlled much of the ball in the first half but the biggest chance of the half fell to Brooklyn in the 29th minute. Midfielder CJ Olney Jr. was sent running down the left wing by an outside of the foot pass by defender Rocco Romeo. Olney crossed the ball across the box which found forward JC Obregón Jr. at the back post, but his shot was just wide.
Detroit’s biggest chance came in the 38th minute, falling to forward Kian Williams who shot from about 10 yards out. Brooklyn goalkeeper Jackson Lee was able to get down quickly and push the ball wide with his palm, keeping the match scoreless at halftime.
Detroit opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, as forward Darren Smith tipped in a cross just inside the post to make it 1-0.
Obregón had another big chance in the 61st minute, forcing a big save from the Detroit City goalkeeper with a shot on target from a direct free kick.
In the 68th minute, a penalty was awarded to Brooklyn after a push from a Detroit defender in the box. Captain Tommy McNamara stepped up, and converted once again as he did two weeks ago against FC Tulsa.
However, just a few minutes later, Detroit took the lead again in the 72nd minute. A corner was crossed in and found the head of defender Callum Montgomery.
Brooklyn kept pushing for an equalizer and a chance came for midfielder Peter Mangione in the 89th minute, but his header on target was saved.
As Brooklyn kept on going, Lee came out of his net to attack a corner. The corner was unfortunately cleared by Detroit, and they were able to score from their own half to seal the win. With this loss, Brooklyn FC were eliminated from playoff contention.
