Brooklyn, N.Y. (September 21, 2026) — Brooklyn FC Men’s midfielder Abdoulaye Kanté has been nominated for the USL Championship Goal of the Week for Week 29, with fan voting beginning at 4:00 PM ET on Monday. Voting closes on Wednesday, September 23, at midnight, with the winner being announced at 4:00 PM ET on Thursday, September 24.
Kanté earned this nomination for his goal against FC Tulsa on September 19, the first goal Brooklyn scored as they came back to earn a 2-2 draw at home. Kanté was sent through on a breakaway by a through ball, battling shoulder to shoulder with a Tulsa defender. He continued his run nearly all the way from the center circle to the byline, chopped the ball back onto his left foot, and curled it far post from a narrow angle past the Tulsa goalkeeper.
Kanté was making his first start in a long time, after missing over two months due to injury. In a match where Brooklyn were playing a man down due to a red card, Kanté was clinical with his only shot on target, cutting the Tulsa lead in half. This was his second goal of the season in the USL Championship, after scoring in Brooklyn’s 2-0 win against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds back in July, which was also his last league appearance.
