Brooklyn, NY. (August 19th, 2026) – Brooklyn FC Women will celebrate their home opener of the Gainsbridge Super League 2026 Fall Season this Friday. They will face off against DC Power FC on August 21 at 7:30 PM ET, streaming on Peacock.
Brooklyn FC will be ready to return home for this match after a 3-0 loss on the road against defending champions Lexington SC. They defended well and remained compact in the first half but two goals in three minutes in the second half put the tie out of reach. A final blow was dealt in the 82nd minute to seal Lexington’s win.
DC Power have high hopes for this season, as the club look to reach the playoffs for the first time in their history. They kept key players like midfielder Justina Gaynor and forward Gianna Gourley while also adding NWSL-caliber players such as forward Mak Whitham and defender Sam Cary Angel. On opening weekend, DC lost 1-0 to Carolina Ascent in a tightly contested match. DC had more shots, passes, and possession than Carolina but failed to find the deciding goal. Despite this, DC’s goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti had to make seven saves, tied for the most in the league.
For Brooklyn, the team will need to stay focused and remain strong defensively while taking advantage of the opportunities that come their way. They had nine shots in their last match, but only two of them were on target, so clinicality will be a key factor. Defender Laila Booker made her professional debut last week against Lexington after a standout college career at Yale and the University of Georgia. She looks to be a big part of the Brooklyn back line moving forward. Midfielder Jilly Shimkin came off the bench and made a big impact, creating two chances. She threaded a precise ball through the Lexington defense that could not be finished and later hit the crossbar from a volley near the top of the box. Forward Carlee Giammona also made a big impact through her hold-up play and leading the counter attack for Brooklyn. A win this week will be vital in kick-starting the season for BKFC, especially with a shortened regular season where every point matters.
Looking ahead at the schedule, Brooklyn FC Women have two matches on the road before returning to Maimonides Park. Next week, they will head to Florida to play Fort Lauderdale United FC on August 28 at 7:30 PM ET.
