Brooklyn, N.Y. (November 7, 2026) — Brooklyn FC Women held league-leading Carolina Ascent FC to a 2-2 draw at home, coming back from behind twice, including two goals after the 88th minute. This extended their unbeaten run to five games, as well as a five game unbeaten run at home.
Brooklyn controlled much of the first half, and had a majority of the possession, but went into halftime down 1-0.
Brooklyn came close to taking the lead in the 30th minute. A bouncing ball was unable to be cleared by the Carolina defence and eventually fell to midfielder Jilly Shimkin who turned and shot but it just went past the top corner.
In the 41st minute, Brooklyn had another chance after a giveaway in midfield. Defender Jackie Richards, again playing further forward, charged through midfield and unleashed a long shot from 20 yards out that was on target but did not trouble the Carolina goalkeeper.
A penalty was awarded for Carollina when a cross from the right wing hit the hand of a Brooklyn defender. Defender Jill Aguilera stepped up to take it and slotted into the bottom left corner to give Carolina the lead, 1-0.
Carolina halted the Brooklyn attack for much of the second half and made it difficult to create chances. They eventually found an equalizer in the 88th minute. Forward Fia Lewis was sent running down the right wing and she made a deep cross to the back post. The Carolina goalkeeper attempted to punch the ball but missed and Richards headed home to tie the game at 1-1.
Less than a minute later, Brooklyn conceded another penalty, after a defender stepped on a Carolina attacker. Aguilera again took the penalty and converted to give her team a 2-1 lead.
Brooklyn refused to give up and earned a free kick at the right edge of the box in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe crossed the ball into the box, and forward Carlee Giammona made a diving header to equalize once again. This was the final touch of the game, as the referee whistled to end the match as a 2-2 draw.
