BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Brooklyn FC today announced the signing of midfielder Jillian “Jilly” Shimkin, pending league and federation approval.
Shimkin joins the club to bolster its central setup, bringing elite technical playmaking and professional experience from the USL Super League to Brooklyn.
- A native of Rockville Centre, New York, Shimkin returns to her home state after spending her rookie professional season with Tampa Bay Sun FC.
- A strong start to her career saw Shimkin made 23 appearances in the Gainbridge Super League, earning key rotational minutes in the midfield and scoring her first professional goal.
Prior to turning pro, Shimkin enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Penn State and the University of Texas, where she earned All-Big 12 honors and won both Big 12 and SEC conference titles.
- A prominent fixture in the U.S. Youth National Team setup, she represented her nation at the U-14 through U-18 levels and training with the U-23s.
Shimkin’s arrival strengthens Brooklyn FC’s midfield core with a proven playmaker capable of dictating tempo, creating opportunities in the final third, and operating seamlessly under high pressure.
- Head Coach Alex Smith: “Bringing Jilly to Brooklyn FC is a major addition for our squad. She gained valuable professional experience in Tampa Bay last season, and her vision, composure under pressure, and relentless work rate fit our system perfectly. Having a native New Yorker return to play in front of her home fans makes this signing even more compelling.”
The Brooklyn FC Women kick off the 2026 Gainbridge Super League Fall Season on August 15 away to Lexington SC. The home opener is Friday, August 21, against DC Power FC. Kick off is at 7:30 PM.
