Growing up in the Philadelphia Union academy, Fontana played in the USL Championship with Bethlehem Steel before making his MLS debut. He made over 50 appearances for the Union in all competitions and was part of the 2020 Supporter’s Shield winning squad. He competed in the CONCACAF Champions League with Philly and scored 12 goals for them in all competitions.
After leaving MLS, Fontana spent a season with Italian side Ascoli in Serie B as well as a year with PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands. He then returned to the USL Championship with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks for the 2025 season before joining Brooklyn FC in 2026
