Coach, how did conceding early affect your approach?
“Mistakes hurt. We made a few of them today in the back, and got punished. First game this year, including preseason where that happened. So lots we can learn from today.”
What is your takeaway from the team’s attacking performance?
“We didn’t generate enough in their penalty area to be honest. We were great in the build, especially in the 2nd half, connected and played through them often, but too often missed the last action. That’s on me to prepare us better.”
Match Reactions
Juan Carlos Obregon Jr, Forward, #29
How do you build on your scoring momentum despite not converting tonight?
“Unfortunately I wasn’t able to convert today but I still tried to impact the game in different ways to help the team. I look to continue the scoring momentum by getting better in the final third to either create for a teammate or having more shots on target to give myself a scoring chance.”
Can you walk us through your early free kick chance?
“I felt confident after I struck the ball on the free kick, thought it had a chance of going in but the keeper made a good save.”
Rocco Romeo, Defender, #4
What were the main defensive challenges tonight?
“Firstly, credit to Detroit on their victory this evening. They are a club who have kept a consistent core, naturally their connections, movements and organization is going to be more established. It’s only game two and we are a brand new club to this league. Today wasn’t our best performance by any means, losing for me is arguably one of the things I hate most in life. However, we didn’t back down, yes mistakes were made, but the beauty of football is that you look forward to the next game next week. We have an extremely talented group of players in this locker room, a great coaching staff and an ownership who believes in all of us to go on and achieve great things in Brooklyn and in the country. Collectively, we all know what went well today and what didn’t go so well, we’ll watch the film and hit the ground running next week to improve on this performance.”
What positives can the defense take into the next match?
“The positives the backline can takeaway from this game is the mentality of never stopping or giving up. Everyone on the pitch and even guys who entered didn’t stop running and competing. Look, the scoreline is what it is, but if I’m honest, the goals we took today are all avoidable and as a collective, we need to be better, myself included. As I said before, it’s only the second match of the campaign, we played a good opponent who has proven themselves in this league, but I’m more than confident in this group who has such a strong and tight brotherhood that we will bounce back, pick one another up and get back into the win column.”
