Charleston, SC. (August 1st, 2026) – Brooklyn FC Men were defeated 5-0 by the Charleston Battery Saturday night.
Charleston took the lead just 21 seconds into the match, the fastest goal in the USL Championship this season. Forward Miguel Berry held up the ball well before playing it across goal and finding midfielder Wilmer Cabrera charging in at the back post.
Brooklyn responded strongly with six shots in the next 45 minutes, the clearest chance falling to forward Markus Anderson. In the 9th minute, a reverse ball from midfielder Taimu Okiyoshi caught the Charleston defense by surprise, taking the goalkeeper out of position but Anderson’s shot was cleared off the line by a defender. Another big chance came from a corner in the 26th minute, when defender Vuk Latinovich put an open header over the bar.
Charleston extended the lead just before halftime through forward Maalique Foster. He scored from the back post after an initial shot was saved by Brooklyn goalkeeper Lukas Burns, and Brooklyn went into halftime down 2-0.
The second half did not get off to an easy start either, with multiple one-on-one opportunities for the Charleston attack facing Burns. They eventually got the third in the 54th minute from midfielder Laurent Kissiedou, his long range effort sneaking past Burns. Just three minutes later Berry scored the fourth for the Battery, catching Brooklyn out when trying to play the ball out of the back.
Tempers flared as the match went on and in the 79th minute, a player from each team was sent off with a red card. Kissiedou made a late tackle on the Brooklyn captain Tommy McNamara, who retaliated out of frustration and both men were sent to the locker room early.
Several more yellow cards were shown in the last 15 minutes of the match and Charleston added a final goal in the 90th minute to end the game 5-0.
